Well, the part you omitted is that it’s not that smart to only own US stocks at any time — or really, any set of stocks that are not diversified over all dimensions.

There has always been a way that guarantees a good amount of growth (almost) no matter what. Without having to think about it much. That amounts to buying funds for everything, everywhere. Not buying all the funds mind you, just diversifying.

You will never get a sexy amount of growth from this. But it’s the lowest possible risk for regular people at any time in history.

And if that strategy somehow goes south… that would probably mean there are much bigger problems in the world at that point in time.
